Why does The Soldiers’ Charity exist?
We are The Soldiers’ Charity. We give lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families. They risk so much for us, but for them, it’s just doing their job. In return, we provide financial assistance when they are in real need. That’s what we’ve been here to offer for 70 years.
How We Help
ABF The Soldiers’ Charity are for soldiers, for life. We provide financial assistance to all soldiers and their families when in need. Even when a soldier leaves the Army they are still part of our family and eligible for our help. The scope of our work is huge. Half of our money is given direct to individuals to help in areas such as debt relief, mobility assistance, education bursaries, carehome fees and respite breaks. The other half is given as grants to other charities.
The Big Curry 2015!
Everyone loves a good curry – and the bigger the better! Curry has always been synonymous with hearty Army ration packs, making the Big Curry a great way to celebrate our soldiers while raising vital funds for The Soldiers’ Charity. Our focus ‘Big Curry month’ is October, but your Big Curry can take place whenever suits you – every year hundreds of our supporters host their own Big Curry events across the UK.
Whether you decide on a beer and a Balti with friends, or a Gala curry night with your colleagues, becoming a Big Curry host is always fun and social whilst making it easy to raise vital funds.
Thanks to the British Army, curry is officially the nation’s favourite dish. Back in the 18th and 19th centuries 20,000 British Soldiers were stationed across the sub continent and the cooks of the East India Company developed anglicised versions of Indian dishes – curry as we know it was born.
We think this makes the Big Curry a great way to celebrate our soldiers while raising vital funds for The Soldiers’ Charity.
